- Is paper better? It depends. While they decompose faster, much more energy is used producing the bags. Think of forests being mown down to give you a fresh bag every time you shop.
- Plastic bags don’t biodegrade, they photodegrade: the bags break down into small toxic fragments contaminating soil, waterways and ultimately the food chain
- Paper bags are made by cutting down trees that take more than 20 years to grow.
- Sea turtles, whales and other marine mammals die every year from eating discarded plastic bags mistaken for food.
- Plastic bags are among the 12 items of debris found most often in coastal cleanups, according to the Center for Marine Conservation.

how hard is this to remember? i work at the store and you’d be surprised how many people that come again and again more than once a week who never ever bring a bag back for their full carts.

I bought a jute bag from my hometown Kolkata three years ago and still I use it. I have washed it many times. I have gifted it such Bags to my Maa, Sister,Grandmaa who love to use them. Friends u can also try.

Whenever I buy fruits with my girlfriend I insist her to carry them in her beautiful cloyh bag which she carries to class daily. She does so.We both try not to use plastics.

Thank you so much for stopping the usage of plastic bags in your stores! I’ve been trying to convince my family and friends to use cloth bags and it was really nice to hear that a supermarket was doing the same.

I love these bags! I have done a little hunting though and there’s a place in the UK that does patterned and styled jute bags. These are really cool is there any chance of expanding the MOM range to include some other styles and designs?

We have, and still are considering other bags for our stores. Our main goal, however, is not style but to try and get as many people reusing bags as possible. It was the reason we went with one that we could offer for a low price. We actually lose money on the sale of each bag, as we pay more for them than what we charge.
To be honest, right now we are looking at bags that are made out of 100 percent recycled soda bottles. They would cost a couple bucks more than the current ones, but they will complete the chain of recycling.

I want to buy a couple hundred bags to give one to each house in my small town to help educate them and speed adoption of the “no plastic bag” philosophy. Would you sell me that many bags? I want to do this on April 22nd to honor Earth Day next month.
