    Dear Friend,

Virginia is on the verge of making a decision that will affect the future of energy in the Commonwealth, and we’re asking for your help. As you may know, Dominion Virginia Power has proposed to build a new 580 megawatt coal-fired power plant in Wise County. The Richmond Times Dispatch says it will be “one of the biggest air polluters in Virginia,” and it will also promote more destructive mountaintop removal coal-mining in SW Virginia. CCAN is working with groups in Wise County and across the Commonwealth to oppose the plant and to urge Dominion to start investing in clean renewable energy.

The State Corporation Committee (SCC) is reviewing Dominion’s permits to build the plant - and impose a rate increase to pay for the $1.6 billion price-tag. They are accepting public comments through December 14th and holding a public hearing on January 8th in Richmond. We know that the polluters are getting their word in. We need to make sure the SCC hears our side of the story. We are asking for your help to generate comments and testimony to show that the general public wants clean energy for Virginia, not new coal.

Please join us in this fight.

á Submit written comments by December 14th and register to join us on January 8th in Richmond. Click here to submit comments, http://www.chesapeakeclimate.org/campaigns/campaign_detail.cfm?id=52 .

The City of Frederick is holding a public hearing on their attempt to build an incinerator.

It is the wrong idea, and instead they should implement a recycling program. It would cost less, and not pollute the environment with toxic gases caused by the burning.

Please speak out, and you can find more information at…
